Visit to Arundel Castle

In This Section

Years 3 and 4 visited Arundel Castle as part of their monarchy studies. During their visit to the home of the Duke and Dutchess of Norfolk, they looked round the state rooms, including the main hall.  These rooms were full of large priceless paintings and figurines. They also visited the 1,000-year-old Keep, the highest point in the castle.  The children learnt that this would have been heavily guarded and would have been where most of the castle's defending occurred.  They also enjoyed visiting the dungeon, which historians believe was never actually used!  The day also included a picnic lunch in Arundel Castle's beautiful gardens.
