Year 4: Hazel

We have had a lovely Spring term in Year 4. We kicked off our Ancient Egypt topic with a visit from Horsham museum. Children enjoyed taking part in the engaging mummification workshop where we worked together to mummify an ‘Egyptian princess’. Children were very inspired when they were allowed to view a real scarab beetle amulet that had once been tucked in the bandages of a real Egyptian mummy.  In art, we looked at the significance of the scarab beetle to the Ancient Egpytians and used printing techniques to produce our own repeating pattern. We used these prints in our art week project, using an app to place our silhouettes over the artwork. The children were very excited to say that they had all created their own piece of digital art!

We have had a very exciting term in Science. In our sound project, we explored different factors that can affect volume and pitch, asking scientific questions about everyday items that could help us better understand the topic. In particular, the children loved investigating sound using a bass guitar to make the connection between length, thickness and tension and the pitch a sound produces. Children have also had lots of fun investigating electricity, especially circuits. We learned about the different components of a circuit and what is needed to make a success circuit.

The children have made some amazing memories this half term including family reading sessions, the PTA movie night and the PTA disco! We are all looking forward to coming back after Easter and continuing our Year 4 learning.
