Curriculum Intent

All children to be lifelong learners, prepared for an ever-changing world.

Here at Wisborough Green Primary School we believe that, alongside the teaching of the Primary National Curriculum, it is vital that we celebrate the strengths and meet the diverse needs of the whole learning community, whilst providing a range of stimulating experiences that will prepare them for a future in an ever-changing world. As a result, our curriculum continues to develop and evolve in response to valid, research-led evidence as well as the diverse needs and interests of our children. Our curriculum is fully accessible to all children, including those with disabilities or special educational needs.

We seek to create valuable opportunities within and beyond the local area for children to develop their curiosity. We encourage children to explore and excel in a variety of activities that enrich and broaden their skills. ‘Understanding lived experience and community context is at the heart of curriculum design within West Sussex. This ethos and intent enable children to access exceptional learning experiences and proactively prepares them for life beyond the classroom.’ Wisborough Green wholeheartedly supports and embodies this philosophy and ensures that our seven core values run throughout our curriculum to enable us all to be ‘the best we can be’.

Our aim is to develop independent and resilient learners who face challenge with a positive attitude and who are proud of their own achievements. Our curriculum follows a 2-year cycle to ensure a diverse and engaging learning journey for all of our children. We study a whole-school theme each term, divided into sub-topics for each phase. Clear progression is established through this process, as we are able to explore the topics in more depth and build upon the skills and knowledge learnt in previous years. The Arts, Sport and Learning Outside the Classroom are highly valued at Wisborough Green and we teach much of our curriculum and values through these media.
