At Wisborough Green, we aim to encourage a love and appreciation of all genres of music. We highly value the learning of instruments such as ukulele, recorders, clarinet and djembe drums, and work with West Sussex Music, as well as a variety of peripatetic music teachers during and after school, to offer a range of expert tuition.
Children are exposed to music throughout the school day. These include relaxing or classical music during lunchtimes and at the beginning of the day, and at the start of assemblies. Teachers also use music within the class to support teaching and learning, and behaviour management.
We follow the aims of the national curriculum for music to ensure that all pupils:
- Perform, listen to, review and evaluate music across a range of historical periods and styles
- Learn to sing and to use their voices, to create and compose music on their own, with the opportunity to learn a musical instrument
- Understand and explore how music is created, produced and communicated.
All children across the school take part in musical performances every year. These are:
Key Stage 1 - Nativity
Years 3 & 4 - Spring Concert
Years 5 & 6 - End of Year Production
In addition to class teaching of music, we have a school singing group who take part in locality concerts at a local theatre, carol singing in the village and special festivals at our local church.
